Fine Art Magazine April Edition
Colour is an important element in this new collection. John says “My intention was to build the landscape then to infuse it with colour, to select a single shade and combine it with the sepia tones. I didn’t want to overcomplicate things, but to encourage the viewer to focus on the emotional and human elements of the work, as well as on the simplicity of one colour and the beauty that it can bring into our lives. When I am composing a landscape it sometimes feels as if I have a piece of clay in my hands and I am pushing and pulling it until it feels right. I feel as if I am in there in the painting; I feel the cool fresh air, the anticipation of what is over that stile or around the bend of the river.” 19 NEW RELEASE JOHN WATERHOUSE
