“Anyone lucky enough to live by the coast is very privileged. Being by the sea adds a whole new dimension to your life, and for me, sailing adds to the adventure. I used to go to Swanage as a boy with my family. We would stay in a caravan and hire a beach hut and I have fond memories of these holidays - whatever the weather I always remember it as being sunny. When we first moved here, we went for a walk along the beach at Wells- next-the-Sea and seeing that famous row of beach huts brought all those wonderful memories flooding back, accompanied by that feeling of being on holiday. Much of my work is about memories – both my own and those of the person viewing the painting. I feel very strongly that whatever my work means to me is deeply personal, and by extension, this is also true of the people who are looking at it. Everyone has their own response to art, and when I meet collectors they often surprise me when they tell me what they see in one of my paintings. I don’t believe in explaining my work or guiding people around it, as I think it is what you see that is important – and often, the more you look, the more you see.” SPINNAKER TANTRUM , Original Painting 18” x 24” FROM THE SHORE , Original Painting 24” x 18” 31 ARTIST FEATURE DUNCAN MACGREGOR
