After studying at the prestigious Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, Lynn worked in design for a number of years, and this experience has had a lasting influence on her work, which is both stylish and stylised rather than fully representational. She works primarily from photographs which she says “enable me to capture the pattern, shapes and composition so I can enhance the colours and vigour of the scene when I am back in the studio.” Lynn paints in water based oils as she enjoys the versatility of the medium and she uses them to extraordinary effect when describing the interplay of light and shadow.
