“David Hockney’s paintings have been a huge inspiration to me over the years, especially his classic painting ‘A Bigger Splash’ which made his career and has become one of the world’s most iconic paintings. That painting was of a pool in front of a minimalist ’50s house in LA and the clean lines and minimalist aspects always appealed to me. As a background I’ve utilised the iconic ‘Stahl House’ which is situated in the Hollywood Hills overlooking LA; famous for its stylish architecture it has been utilised in a number of films and music videos over the years. Although Hockney’s ‘A Bigger Splash’ didn’t include any figures, just the splash from the diving board, I imagined what was making that splash and featured a Polar Bear coming up from a dive to enjoy the sunshine and sprawling view. There is also a hint about the impact of global warming on the polar bear’s habitat and question what the future may hold.” NEW RELEASE STEVE TANDY 13
