N E W R E L E A S E created using dye sublimation. In this extraordinary process, solid dyes are subjected to extreme heat, causing them to vaporise and permeate the glossy surface of a thin piece of aluminium before they return to solid form. Because the colour infuses the metal, this sophisticated technique gives superbly vibrant colours and a lustrous finish. Colin is a committed conservationist and his concerns about endangered species, particularly the big cats, add a frisson of empathy and authenticity to each piece. There is also a strong sense of narrative; these animals have a story to tell, of past adventures and uncertain futures, and they issue an expressive challenge to us to look them in the eyes and listen to what they have to tell us. When we launched Colin’s first collection of limited editions last year, they took the nation’s galleries by storm. This brilliant and innovative young artist became an overnight success with his hypnotic wildlife portraits which have the power to transform any room into a stylish and memorable space. The level of detail in these images creates a sense of intimacy and closeness to these awe inspiring creatures. The depth of colour and texture as well as the extreme accuracy of the likeness is achieved through a complex technique in which Colin uses airbrush, spray can and etching tools to build the artworks in intaglio (relief) directly onto aluminium. These then translate beautifully into limited editions I N N O V A T I O N I N C O N S E R V A T I O N C O L I N B A N K S MINDS EYE Limited Edition of 95, Dye Sublimation on Aluminium, 38 x 13”, £650 11 NEW RELEASE COLIN BANKS
