Fine Art Magazine December 2018
Three very different artists have given us their take on the perfect snow scene with which to start our idyllic winter journey. From blissful treks through snow-covered forests and fields to stolen moments in glamorous Italian cities, art can take you wherever you want go and even lay on the perfect weather conditions for your trip. Colourful, sociable and ubiquitous, the robin has become an iconic symbol of Christmas which flits through our gardens at this time of year and stars on our Christmas cards. This enchanting piece from the inimitable Mary Shaw is a classic seasonal scene of the British countryside which will raise a smile all year round. Mary’s use of diamond dust gives her work an iridescent sparkle, adding a contemporary twist to otherwise traditional scenes and making the perfect finishing touch for the icy glitter in the air. The mesmerising woodland images from Inam are famously seasonal, and this particular scene is perfect for a meandering winter walk. There is no path or river to follow, no definite direction to go in. Instead we are simply invited to contemplate and inhabit this beautiful setting, and enjoy a few moments away from day to day life in the perfect tranquillity of the silent forest. In complete contrast, Peter Rodgers whisks us off to a smart European piazza, where families enjoy a peaceful stroll in the twilight. Peter loved to paint in Italy which he says has a magic that cannot be found in any other country. The indigo sky, snow- capped steeples, golden buildings and of course the ever present red umbrella lend an air of festive vibrancy to this more urban slant on the classic winter wonderland. 37 NEW RELEASE ARTIST FEATURE WINTER WONDERLANDS INAM, TITLE: Winter Wonderland II PETER J RODGERS, TITLE: Piazza Pigeons
