Katharine’s paintings are inspired by the streetscapes, architecture and atmosphere of the Cotswolds and beyond as she creates innovative interpretations of the built environment and its juxtaposition with the natural world. Over the years she has developed a genuinely distinctive style using a unique combination of media to create exquisite hues, delicate details, and on occasion, great drama. Moving from town to country, James Preston and Lynn Rodgie are two of the UK’s most highly regarded landscape artists, but despite working within the same genre their widely differing styles take them in very different directions. James is a landscape artist in the most traditional sense, and his mesmerising work transports us into the idyllic British countryside. His portrayal of the changing light and the changing seasons gives each piece an additional sense of authenticity; A James Preston painting has more than just a sense of place, it also has a sense of time. In contrast, Lynn Rodgie veers away from the fully representational and her expressive works are both stylish and stylised. When she chooses a scene to paint, it is not necessarily the view which inspires her, so much as the shapes and colours of the individual elements. 41 NEW RELEASE ARTIST FEATURE WINTER WONDERLANDS JAMES PRESTON, TITLE: Snow II LYNN RODGIE, TITLE: Moonlite Cottage
