Anna Razumovskaya - Defining Moments

Seen through the lens of the politics of her childhood, Anna’s work could be seen as almost reactionary in nature, a full blown rejection of the rules and limitations learned during her upbringing in the Soviet Union at the height of the Cold War. As a former officer of the KGB, her father was bound to the austere lifestyle of a Communist, but Anna’s mother always cultivated a chic and sophisticated appearance, and the two of them, both tall and beautiful, were a source of awe to the young Anna. Though the honesty and straightforwardness of her subject matter belies any hidden agenda or political motivation, it is perhaps partly her experience of repression that have encouraged her to celebrate the joy and the brightness in living and the sensuality of the elegant human form at the prime of life. The drape of sumptuous fabrics and the construction of gowns over shapely figures illuminates the artist’s appreciation of timeless haute couture design, and her beautiful models display a careless, unhurried poise, free from want and unbound by politics.
