Mackenzie Thorpe Official Artist for Tour de Yorkshire 2019

We are delighted to confirm that Mackenzie Thorpe will be the Tour de Yorkshire’s official artist for 2019. One of the biggest selling British artists of the last 30 years, Mackenzie will be creating a collection of artworks for the event which will be unveiled early next year.

Mackenzie’s journey has taken him from the shipyards of Middlesbrough to internationally acclaimed artist, and his working-class roots in the north of England influence his atmospheric and poignant pictures. His work is rooted in authenticity, packed with emotional expression and speaks of hope, love, struggle and challenge - values which align perfectly with the spirit of Tour de Yorkshire. 

Over a number of years the bicycles have held a powerful position in Mackenzie’s artwork and his established collections of cycling images resonate with cycling enthusiasts around the world. Symbolic of challenge, fun, work, industry, joy, togetherness, they provide an insightful commentary on life and experience.
